Update from Janet Broussard on a comment made at The Old River Road. This luncheon is to honor parents of fallen heroes. This is the best news I have heard all week!

Just wanted to let you know our voices were heard and Governor Jindal will now be attending our luncheon. Thank you for your help. These families deserve only the best!

I am posting this in hopes that Governor Jindal’s Office will attend the luncheon as requested with the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana To qualify to be a Blue Star Mother, you must have a son or daughter serving in the military. Many of these women (and some dads) are Soldiers’ Angels as well and we completely support them and work side by side with them (update this post is based on my opinion and does not come from SA). Governor Jindal should put this luncheon as a priority!

I just received word that Governor Jindal has declined our invitation to attend the luncheon again this year. I can’t begin to tell you how disappointed I am in his decision. The request was made in Nov. 08, but I was told it was too early. I again sent the request in February. I heard nothing from his staff. I finally called at the end of March and was told “Well, if you haven’t head anything yet, then he won’t be there”! I was also told “he receives thousands of request”. Well, I understand that, but he made a promise to us last year at the Governor’s mansion that he would indeed be there for us. I finally got Veteran Affairs involved and they have been urging the Governor’s staff to make the right decision.

I sent a letter to his office this morning stating how disappointed I am and encourging them to reconsider. I believe this is a time that we all need to stand together and voice how disappointed we are in his decision.

If you would like to send a letter asking him to reconsider, I would very much appreciate it. The fax number is 225-342-9507.

Thanks.
