jacksondarkNew Orleans never gets tiresome, even to the locals (I’m a perpetual tourist). When the seasons change, so do the opportunities to experience something new and exciting or to revisit a time-honored family tradition. With any excuse to parade, decorate, or get in costume, Christmas is no exception. The Running of the Santas,  Krewe of Jingle parade,  Luna Fete,  Reveillon dinners (special seasonal menus) served at the finer restaurants, hotel lobbies to explore, or a famous bar to stop by for a classic holiday Milk Punch, it always feels exciting.

Jackson Square: You can be guaranteed to find great energy any time of year in Jackson Square. Add some beautiful Christmas decorations around the Pontalba buildings surrounding St. Louis Cathedral as well as caroling, and it is a place you could find yourself spending a lot of time.

French Quarter: Nobody loves the French Quarter more than I do, but it has that extra, “je ne sais quois” as the residents and businesses there really go over the top with their decorations.

Riding a Street Car down St. Charles St: Street cars are fun to ride and something about them being decorated with a wreath, enhances the ride. It is a great way to see the beautiful homes, ornately decorated along St. Charles Street.

Celebration in the Oaks: Beautiful lights and displays in City Park among the majestic oak trees is  certainly a New Orleans tradition.

The Roosevelt Hotel: A must see every year as the entire lobby is turned into a magical wonderland of little white lights.

Miracle on Fulton Street: Probably the only snow we will see, so it has become a fun time for all.

Tales of the Toddy This one of my favorite events, preceding Christmas each year. Tasting and sipping from all the best local bar chefs and restaurants in one night in one room, is simply fantastic.

***While I await my new iphone from Santa, I’m fortunate my friend, colleague and amazing photographer, Julie of  http://jknowsnola.com/ was with me and let me use her great photographs on our NOLA Christmas adventure.
