WHEN: Friday, Sept. 25, 2 p.m. ‘til
WHERE: Sazerac Bar at The Roosevelt New Orleans Hotel
There have been few happier hours at The Sazerac Bar than on the afternoon of September 26, 1949–the day women finally permitted to order a drink at the legendary establishment. As the picture illustrates, they stormed the bar. Made it their own. Sipped on Sazeracs just like men had been doing for decades. This was a momentous occasion for women in New Orleans whether they loved cocktails or not. The Roosevelt Hotel will be celebrating this anniversary next month.
As a lover of cocktails myself, I wanted to commemorate and recreate this famous photograph from the 60th anniversary of “Stormin the Sazerac” with the spirited women of Tales of the Cocktail 2009. On Friday August 14 from 9:00am-11:00am, these modern day Tales of the Cocktail women and myself dressed in 50’s era hats and gloves courtesy of Fleur de Paris on Royal Street will storm the newly restored Sazerac Bar in The Roosevelt New Orleans for a Sazerac and a snapshot.
I invite you to stop by if available as we homage to these pioneering women.
Thank you.
