1528670_701762783191393_1344320559_nHoly King Cake – there is a new “military” Mardi Gras Krewe in town, named Legion of Mars. They are set to roll in 2015, but you can get involved now.

If you have been following along here, or with my other blog Hooah Wife, you will know that I am usually quite involved (more quietly these days) with the local military support community. When I was approached by one of the board members of the Legion of Mars, I had to stop and check it out. Since not many know about it, I also decided to share the news. There is a ball scheduled on February 23.

GOALS: Promote patriotism and encourage positive relations between the military and civilian communities. The krewe is planning to honor wounded warriors and participate in military related philanthropy projects in the New Orleans area. We are also working to obtain a parade permit and conduct a patriotic military themed parade called “The Legion of Mars” on the traditional St. Charles Avenue parade route.
A way to honor veterans, past and present – awesomeness!

From their newsletter:

We have more exciting news about Mardi Gras 2014! Mardi Gras World’s Barry Kern has begun designing and building the Legion of Mars’ first signature float. The float design will incorporate all branches of the military and remain on display at Mardi Gras World throughout the year. The float will ride this year as part of the Legion of Mars parade!

Additionally, Blaine Kern, Sr., who is a proud WWII Veteran, will be drafting our Legion’s first Mardi Gras print! The poster will be for sale to all members prior to and at our ball on February 23rd after the parade.

Hubby and I have not joined as of this moment, but will certainly consider it strongly! Red dress not worn last year as hubby’s Krew folded, is still hanging in the closet!
