It only took me 4 hours to make a 3 hour ride. I must give all the people involved in the evacuation efforts – big kudos. I took 190 to the I-12. I-12 was smooth sailing and then I hit I-55 due North. The contraflow worked nicely!!! Woot woot for good planning!!! Hunkered down with …
Leaving first thing in the AM with the dog and the kids. Hubby wants to stick it out as long as possible. Every house around us is boarded up but ours grrrrrr….. and there are way too many trees leaning over my house. I’ll write tomorrow when I get to Jackson. Lots of last minute …
Here is the map of where I am. If you will notice, there is Lake Pontchartrain on the map. New Orleans is on the South East of the Lake and I am directly on the North right over the bridge called The Causeway that crosses the lake. As a matter of fact, I’m almost where …

I don’t usually listen to my hubby, why should I start now? Mr. Engineer and I ass-u-me, “dabbling meteorologist” can be added to his resume now, has a little graph going and he has the storm going far due West. He refuses to leave until Sunday when he knows if we should absolutely have to …

Computer models are hard to figure out. The truth is, nobody knows what Gustav will do in the next 48 hours. My family is ready to go if we have to, but we aren’t leaving until we have some more definitive answers. I’ll finish packing today and make a video of our current belongings – …

Even though people are preparing for evacuations, they still came out to sign the petition and volunteer to canvass entire subdivisions. The citizens of Mandeville have woken up and are going to demand a recall of their Mayor, Eddie Price. …
I have earned some rank for being experienced with military moves. Having a house packed up and ready to go in a couple of week’s time, is not that difficult. It is all temporary stress and nervous energy that keeps you moving to get the job done. Once everything is on the moving truck, many …

Not in panic mode, just in getting ready mode. The last time we evacuated for a hurricane was during Bertha, a couple of hours after I gave birth to my first child (12 years ago). At the time, we were stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida. When a base says mandatory evacuations – …
Update – I want you all to know that I understand that this is an engagement letter and not a bill. I don’t understand legal stuff at all. That is why I put it out there for you to see and edumacate me. See resolution #08-36 if you don’t believe me that this is the …
